MP3 to text in the app
You have a podcast episode, an old recorder’s file, or a downloaded audio, and you need the words in it as text. The app takes the .mp3 as it is, with no converter needed.
Short answer: Import the file into AI Transcribe (tap Import, choose Audio File, pick your .mp3 file) and the transcript appears with timestamps and speaker labels. Files up to 3 hours are supported, and the format is converted internally, so no preparation is needed.
What is a .mp3 file?
MP3 is the most widely used compressed audio format, podcasts, downloads, older dictaphones and Android recorders all produce it. Every transcription pipeline accepts it.
MP3 to text, step by step
- Get the file onto your iPhone (Files, Downloads, or shared from another app).
- Open AI Transcribe and tap Import → Audio File.
- Select the .mp3 file. It’s converted and transcribed automatically, keep the app open while it processes.
- Use Summarize or any of the 20+ AI tools on the result, or export the transcript as text or PDF.
On a Mac or in a browser
On a Mac, drag the .mp3 file onto AI Transcribe for Mac, or press ⌘I to import it; the transcript and the AI tools work the same way. Sign in with your email and every transcript also opens in the web library on any computer, where you can read it, export it as text, Markdown or subtitles, or share it as a link.

Is MP3 to text really free here?
Yes. Each account gets one free transcription of a file up to 30 minutes, with speaker labels and timestamps, and no card. For more files and the AI tools, the AI Transcribe app has a free trial.
Do I need to convert the MP3 first?
No. Upload the .mp3 as it is. Other formats work too: M4A, WAV, AAC, FLAC, OGG and video files.
How long can the MP3 be?
Up to 30 minutes in the free tool. The AI Transcribe app takes files up to 3 hours, with a free trial.
Which languages are supported?
32 languages, detected automatically. You don’t need to set the language first.
Why only on Mac, iPhone and iPad?
Your transcript is saved to your AI Transcribe library, and the app that opens it runs on Apple devices. On Windows or Android you can still read the sample on this page, and you can open the tool on your iPhone.
What happens to my file?
It is uploaded over an encrypted connection and transcribed in the cloud. If you don’t save the transcript, the file and the preview are deleted within 24 hours. If you save it, it stays in your library until you delete it.
