AI Transcribe vs Otter: which fits how you record?

Last updated:

Otter and AI Transcribe solve different problems that happen to share the word “transcription”. The deciding question: do you transcribe scheduled online meetings, or recordings and files you already have?

TL;DR: Otter is a meeting assistant — its bot joins Zoom, Google Meet and Teams calls and shares notes with a team. AI Transcribe is a phone-first tool for everything else: voice memos, WhatsApp audio, interviews, lectures and imported files. The sharpest difference is Otter’s free-plan import cap: 3 audio/video file imports per account, lifetime (as of July 2026).

Choose Otter when…

  • Your week is scheduled Zoom/Meet/Teams meetings and you want automatic shared notes.
  • Your team collaborates on meeting transcripts in a shared workspace.
  • Speaker-labeled live meeting notes matter more than file transcription.

Choose AI Transcribe when…

  • Your audio already exists: voice memos, WhatsApp voice notes, interview recordings, lecture files.
  • You work from an iPhone, not a browser dashboard.
  • You need transcription beyond English — 32 languages with auto-detection.
  • You want the transcript processed — summarized, translated, turned into to-dos — in the same app.

Frequently asked questions

Can Otter transcribe my existing voice memos? Technically yes, but the free plan allows only 3 file imports ever, and Pro allows 10 per month. For file-heavy use, that’s the wrong tool shape.

Is either more accurate? On clear audio both use modern models and the differences are small; audio quality dominates accuracy.

Can I use both? Plenty of people do: Otter for scheduled team calls, a file-first app for everything recorded outside meetings.
